Care Packages

Several people have asked how to send me things on the trail.  Things you need to know before you send:

  1. No surprise packages/letters! I need to know when/if I should be asking for something at a post office.  If you don’t tell me to look for it, I won’t!
  2. If sending food, gear, etc, please remember I have to carry the things you send. Smaller portions are appreciated! Please pick only a few items listed below, not all of them, all at once.
  3. Letters/notes/postcards are really appreciated, as they can give me a mental boost during difficult stretches.  If sending these, please don’t be upset if I read it and leave it behind. Again, I have to carry everything for thousands of miles, so I will not keep any mementos as I go.
  4. Make all boxes distinguishable and send me the details on how you made it stand out (bright colors, stickers, whatever…).  This is really important, since post offices will have literally hundreds of boxes to sort through to find mine.  By making them stand out in some way, it will be easier for the post officers to pick them out of the wide array.  Additionally, please write my last name (Marlor) on all sides of the box.

Gear that is nice to get replacements for along the way:

  • Buffs (I prefer the UV or bug repellent ones)
  • Handkerchiefs
  • Socks (Darn Tough, size M, I prefer no show or ankle cut)
  • Hats (I prefer trucker style, with a mesh back so my head can breathe)

Food–Below is a list of things I eat a lot of while hiking.  In general, I can be a picky eater, plus I can’t eat spicy food, and I also dislike any and all seafood, so please don’t stray too far from this list.

  • Summer Sausages (no super peppery stuff)
  • Cheese (no pepper jack)
  • Candy (nothing with nougat, no dark chocolate) Favorites in no particular order: Skittles (red or purple bags), Snickers, Sour Patch Kids, Gummy Bears, Starburst, Butterfingers, Milk Duds, Rolos, Tootsie Pops, Peanut M&Ms, Reese’s peanut butter cups, Tootsie Rolls, caramel everything.
  • Jerky (again, no peppery/spicy stuff)

If/when you have something you want to send my way, send me a message (text/FB/email) when you’re ready to send it, and I’ll give you a town and directions on how to send it to me!  It might take me a few days to respond, but I will eventually get back to you!
